English as a Second Language

Tulsa Tech's vision "to develop a world-class workforce" for our community not only shapes our education and training programs, but also inspires the many services we provide in the Tulsa area. We're proud to serve the Tulsa area with community services as we work to carry out our mission "to prepare people for success in the workplace."

We believe Oklahoma's and Tulsa County's economic future will largely depend on the ability of Tulsa Tech to provide training for existing business and industry enabling them to grow in the marketplace. Tulsa Tech's mission is to respond to these needs by designing customized industry traiing programs.

One such example can be seen in our English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) business training program.  The ESL Program strives to meet the needs of local industry, by offering language instruction to Tulsa area businesses in both Spanish and English. The ESL program serves a diverse community whether the native language is Russian, German, Hmong, Korean, Spanish, Chinese, or other.

Our professional staff meets with individual business owners to plan for classes, whether at the client's place of business or at the Business and Industry Training Center, and works out details to meet the client's unique language needs.

The ability to use Spanish with non-English speaking employees promotes better communication in the workplace by removing communication barriers, and thus increases safety and productivity.

Tulsa Tech's Spanish as a Second Language program provides language skills for non-Spanish-speaking site supervisors and other appropriate employees. Training includes important Spanish commands, questions, and phrases necessary for daily interactions between supervisors and employees at work sites. The goal is to provide non-Spanish-speaking supervisors with work-related Spanish language skills to better manage their Spanish-speaking employees and clients with routine issues, as well as work-related commands.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be ale to use Spanish to issue commands for specific work-related tasks.

Training includes important commands, questions, and phrases necessary for daily interactions between supervisors and employees at work sties. The goal is to provide non-English speaking employees with basic work-related English language skills.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to use English to communicate specific work-related tasks.
