Aviation Technology

The aviation industry offers attractive positions for skilled, certified technicians who can repair, maintain and inspect aircraft. Tulsa Tech’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program is second to none in course content and instructional facilities.

Housed in a cutting-edge facility designed specifically for aviation instruction, the AMT program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFRs) Part 147 to offer training leading to FAA certification as an airframe and powerplant technician. The FAA-approved portion of the program features three basic parts: (1) General, (2) Airframe, and (3) Powerplant. You must successfully complete the General program before entering either the Airframe and/or Powerplant part of the program.

As the foundation for the Airframe and or Powerplant portions of the AMT program, the General section features core knowledge and skills used by both Airframe and Powerplant technicians. You will be exposed to a range of information including hangar safety, physics and aerodynamics, aircraft hardware and precision measuring instruments, blueprints and drawings, basic electricity and AC/DC circuitry, and FAA regulations, publications and records.

More importantly, you will apply and test theories in a cutting-edge facility and on up-to-date equipment. You may earn nine hours of credit toward a college associate degree. Success at this level is a strong indicator of exciting career potential in the aviation industry.
